Barbara, like many homeowners in Houston, received a letter from a company called HomeBuy Solutions, offering a quick sale of her home without the need for a realtor. Trusting the offer, Barbara allowed the company to assess her property, and they promised her $108,000 for her house. However, she later realized that she had only received $48,000, a fraction of what her home was truly worth.

Recognizing the injustice, Barbara reached out to Edna Griggs, knowing her reputation for fighting for the rights of the community. “When she called me, she said, ‘You’re not going to believe what I did.’ I was shocked,” Edna recalled. “But I knew I had to help.”

During the trial, the jury found that Barbara had been defrauded, awarding her $400,000 in punitive damages, $136,000 in actual damages, and $218,000 in attorney fees.
